Can I file a small claims lawsuit for an infected toe?

I went in for a pedicure and I got an infection in my toe. I went to the doctor and they confirmed that it is a bacterial infection. It has been swollen and infected for 2 1/2 months. I was prescribed an antibiotic to take for 14 days - 4 times a day. Infection did not go away so I was put on another antibiotic for the same amount of time. It is slowly getting better now. I have insurance, and my out of pocket expenses are approximately 120 used. Not sure how much I was going to ask for the maximum allowed in small claims as this has been infected since March 29th. Do I need to send the establishment a demand letter first or just file in small claims court? And can you file for pain and suffering in small claims?
