What happens if my license is not valid during the time of accident?

A girl hit my car after running though an intersection where the lights were flashing. She admitted to the police on the scene that it was her fault and she thought that the light was green. The police report says that. Her insurance is denying my claim because they say the accident is my fault. I have full coverage insurance on my car but my driver’s license was not valid at the time of the accident so they are also rejecting my claim. How do I start an appeal process with the girl’s insurance company? I can not afford to hire an attorney and I need some good advice.
